Reflecting on Level 1 of the Hallestam Crochet Atelier
Over the past weeks, we’ve been quietly building something together.
Stitch by stitch, chapter by chapter, the first level of the Hallestam Crochet Atelier has unfolded — not as a race, not as a checklist, but as a guided journey into the foundations of crochet.
With the final chapter of Level 1 now complete, this felt like the right moment to pause. To reflect. And to acknowledge how far you’ve come.
What Level 1 Was Really About
Level 1 was never just about learning individual techniques.
Yes, you learned how to:
create a Magic Ring
work single, half double, and double crochet
crochet in rows and in the round
shape with increases and decreases
read patterns with clarity and confidence
But more importantly, Level 1 was about building trust — in your hands, your eye, and your ability to learn at your own pace.
It was about understanding how crochet works.
From “How” to “Why”
As we move forward, it’s helpful to name the shift that naturally happens here.
Level 1 focused on:
how to do
technique
following patterns
beginning with confidence
Level 2 will focus on:
why choices matter
intentional decisions
understanding and shaping
becoming a more conscious maker
This is not about complexity for the sake of it. It’s about depth.
Becoming a More Conscious Crocheter
When you understand why something works, you gain freedom.
Freedom to:
choose yarn with intention
adjust tension without frustration
adapt patterns to your own vision
shape pieces with softness, structure, and flow
Crochet stops being something you simply follow —and becomes something you understand.
That is the heart of the Atelier.
